Butech celebrates its 20th anniversary and looks to the future with an extension of its competencies
Butech SA, a Swiss company specializing in precision wire drawing and a member of the Acrotec Group, is celebrating twenty years of steady growth. Founded in 2005 in Tavannes, then recently relocated to Glovelier (Jura – Switzerland), the company has established itself as a reference partner in the very fine wire sector for watchmaking, medtech and high-precision applications.

“For two decades, our mission has been to push back the limits of wire drawing: ever finer, ever more precise, ever more reliable. Today, we are entering a phase of ambitious expansion of our skills, right from the raw material stage, to meet the future needs of our customers, particularly in the medical and watchmaking sectors“, explains Maxime Gicquel, CEO of Butech SA.
Butech produces over 5 million meters of wire a year, on more than 6,000 spools, down to an impressive micro-threading level of Ø 0.020 mm, three times finer than a human hair! And up to Ø 2,100 mm for stainless steel, and Ø 1,500 mm for Nivaflex. Today, micro-precision is essential for medical technologies that are increasingly smaller and less invasive. All the while increasing their efficiency. Tolerances are on the order of half a micron (0.5 μm), depending on the process chosen.
Thanks to our ultra-versatile machine park, all standard products can be delivered within four weeks, which can be reduced to 5 days for express deliveries, with 100% traceability guaranteed!
Towards a broader offering: from raw material machining to more complex shapes
Until now, Butech has focused primarily on wire drawing, straightening and rolling for critical applications, particularly in watchmaking and medtech. On the eve of this 20ᵉ anniversary, Butech is announcing a move upmarket, as follows:
- Straightening and cutting of complex pins and needles.
- Wire drawing of increasingly complex shapes from the raw wire stage, with profiles or special shapes (sections, non-circular-section rolled products).
- Upstream raw material management: processing, special dies, electroplating on request.
- Improved precision standards: strict tolerances, controlled surface finish, reinforced quality control.
This development will enable Butech to offer more comprehensive services and processes, from design to delivery of profiled parts, whether prototypes, pre-series or series production.
Butech is also committed to optimizing service reliability for its watchmaking and medtech customers, with short lead times for standard products (less than 4 weeks) and personalized advice for specific requests. It also guarantees total traceability with batch tracking, material certificates and high-precision dimensional control, working with a wide range of materials: piano wire steel, stainless steel, Nivaflex and other alloys on request.
In terms of volume, Butech offers real production flexibility: small or large quantities, from a few grams to several kilograms, depending on requirements.
Perspective et ambition
In marking 20 years of success, Butech is not content to celebrate its past: the Jura-based company is looking to the future. It intends to strengthen its research-methodology capacity, optimize its production flows to limit material waste, and anticipate the growing need for complexity in the watchmaking and medtech markets. All in the tradition of excellence for which the Acrotec Group is renowned in Switzerland and internationally.
